Global poultry sector unites to combat antimicrobial resistance

The International Poultry Council (IPC) has announced that 16 new organisations have joined its antimicrobial use stewardship principles, bringing the total number of supporters to 42.

These organisations represent nearly 50% of global poultry meat production and span over 150 countries, covering all sectors of poultry production from small farms to fully integrated systems.

IPC president Ricardo Santin emphasised the importance of private sector leadership in addressing antimicrobial resistance, highlighting the positive impact on global health through a One Health approach.

Reduce antimicrobial use and mitigate bacterial resistance

The initiative, supported by USAID’s TRANSFORM (Transformational Strategies for Farm Output Risk Mitigation) programme, aims to reduce antimicrobial use and mitigate bacterial resistance, ensuring sustainable animal health and food security.
